Women’s Health Week series: Merck Healthcare MD talks key trends impacting the equity of access to infertility care

In celebrating Women’s Health Week (5 – 11 September), this interview in a series called Women, Equity and Health will focus on women and infertility.
Josie Downey, General Manager and Managing Director of Merck Healthcare ANZ, joined Health Industry Hub to address the key barriers in care experienced by Australian women and families seeking infertility services and treatments.
Josie shared her insights on the current gaps in infertility clinical trials and discussed how the company is partnering with stakeholders to also increase diversity among clinical trial participants to better mirror the communities we live in.
When reflecting on inequities in infertility care delivery, Josie discussed the impact of the current models of care and how limitations in availability and access to infertility care is amplified for minority groups.
In considering the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Review, Josie shared her views on the reforms that are most relevant to the infertility sector to ensure there is more equitable patient access to treatments in Australia.
