Sanofi collaborates with ADEA to deliver support to diabetes patients
Sanofi and the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) announced the launch of their new support service which will provide people with diabetes prescribed Sanofi insulins with direct telephone access to Credentialled Diabetes Educators from the ADEA.
The SIMPLE STEPS phone service will provide people prescribed Sanofi insulins across Australia with unprecedented access to qualified ADEA personnel to provide evidence based education and professional support.
The World Health Organisation has recognised the benefits of diabetes education in the outcomes for people living with diabetes. Diabetes is a complex disease which can be much more effectively self-managed as a result of education. However, access to professional diabetes education is inequitable across Australia with some areas underserviced while others have no access to a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) whatosever.
Sanofi Australia Patient Solutions Manager, Alan Blaskett said this new service will provide additional reassurance for people prescribed insulin, complementing the support provided by their Diabetes Care Team.
“We know that people have a better experience with insulin when they see a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) so we have partnered with the ADEA to make it easier for people to find their local CDE. But, when it’s not possible for a face-to-face consultation, due to availability or geography, the SIMPLE STEPS phone service provides the next best thing with free, direct access to professional diabetes education and advice from the ADEA by calling 1800 2 SIMPLE.”
ADEA Manager Professional Services and Education, Rachel Freeman, explained that the service would be delivered by a number of CDEs in practice, each contracted on a part-time basis to collectively provide the Simple Steps service coverage Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (AEST).
“CDEs will be on the end of the phone to provide the most up to date clinical guidance for people with diabetes prescribed insulin. We know that only 57% of people with diabetes have appropriate access to a CDE, and therefore people with diabetes in Australia are not receiving optimal diabetes management. This program will assist in closing some of that gap.”
All people living with diabetes can access the Find a CDE Search Tool available on the landing page of the Simple Steps website.
People with diabetes prescribed Sanofi insulin products can access a CDE through the Simple Steps phone service by calling the freecall number: 1800 2 SIMPLE (1800 2 746 753).
