APPA leaders have their eyes firmly set on the future of Medical Affairs

Health Industry Hub | October 19, 2022 |

Medical: Medical Affairs has raised its profile as the trusted scientific voice of industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ahead of the first APPA-MAPS* Joint Medical Affairs Summit on the 17 – 18 November in Sydney, Matt Britland, President of APPA and Lauren Pasfield, Vice President of APPA joined Health Industry Hub to discuss the themes and highlights of the conference.

Addressing ‘value’ to society to provide context for the use and reimbursement of novel medicines and vaccines is becoming increasingly more important. Matt and Lauren reflected on the evolving role of Medical Affairs in addressing the clinical, humanistic and economic factors relating to ‘value’.

Limited availability and access to healthcare (drugs, devices and diagnostics) is impacting the First Nations People, culturally and linguistically diverse communities and those living in remote and rural areas in Australia. Lauren and Matt shared their views on the current and emerging role of Medical Affairs in partnering with key stakeholders to elevate the voice of diverse patient communities and reduce these health inequities.

A collaborative industry-wide effort around the COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics has shifted public perception of the pharma sector. Medical Affairs will continue its wide scope of medical education to maintain this positive momentum and drive the transformation of public sentiment regarding the medicines and vaccines industry.
