Medtronic stars among 2021 AFR BOSS Most Innovative Companies List
MedTech News: Medtronic Australasia has been named a leading innovator in health technology on the 2021 Australian Financial Review (AFR) BOSS Most Innovative Companies List.
This marks the third year Medtronic Australasia has appeared on the list. This year, the company ranked 9th in the Health Industry category for its MiniMed™ 770G insulin pump system with SmartGuard™ Auto Mode technology.
The prestigious annual list, published by The Australian Financial Review and BOSS Magazine, received more than a thousand entries across Australia and New Zealand. The award measured top innovation initiatives implemented in the last 12 months.
“It is an honour to be recognised as one of Australia’s most innovative organisations and this ranking is a testament to the incredible efforts the Medtronic team puts in to meaningfully innovate health technologies and improve the lives of patients every day,” said Liz Carnabuci, managing director and vice president of Medtronic Australasia.
“One of the tenets in the Medtronic mission is to direct our growth in the areas of biomedical engineering. The MiniMed 770G is a prime example of this and perfectly encapsulates how Medtronic engineers the extraordinary to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life.”
Medtronic Australasia has been recognised for its MiniMed 770G, developed to support patients living with type 1 diabetes – a chronic, incurable condition where the pancreas is unable to produce insulin, a hormone that converts sugar (glucose) into energy. The insulin pump system is the only available technology of its type in Australia and uses a portable medical device that monitors a patient’s insulin levels and automatically delivers insulin. The MiniMed 770G links with a smartphone app which monitors and records glucose level and insulin delivery data, facilitating greater convenience for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. More than 126,000 Australians live with type 1 diabetes.
Medtronic Australasia has also been recognised for its innovation practices, such as fostering a strong internal culture of innovation and engaging employees in the innovative process.
The AFR BOSS Most Innovative Companies List is based on a rigorous assessment process managed by Australia’s leading innovation consultancy, Inventium, in conjunction with a panel of industry expert judges. The assessment criteria include internal corporate elements such as innovation culture, strategy, resources and process, which demonstrate a sustainable and repeatable approach to innovation.
