Gilead recognised for LGBTQ workplace inclusion fifth year running

Human Resources: Gilead Sciences Australia has again been recognised by the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) with Bronze Small Employer* for the company’s efforts in LGBTQ workplace inclusion. This is the fifth year running Gilead has received AWEI recognition, with Gilead’s score increasing year on year every year for LGBTQ workplace inclusion.
The AWEI is Australia’s definitive national benchmark on LGBTQ workplace inclusion. It enables participating companies to compare their inclusivity against other organisations and obtain annual data on the impact initiatives are having on their employees. In 2018, Gilead became the first pharmaceutical company to receive this recognition and has remained the only pharmaceutical company included on the index for four of the last five years.
Jaime McCoy, General Manager Gilead Sciences Australia and New Zealand, commented “Gilead is a passionate supporter of equality in the workplace. Our LGBTQ inclusivity initiatives are employee-led and wholeheartedly supported by leadership. We have made tangible strides in inclusivity over the last five years, but we continually challenge ourselves to do better in this area – for our people, for our business and as part of our contribution to an equitable and socially responsible community.”
AstraZeneca-UNSW partner to boost the Australian startup ecosystem
The AWEI submission was led by the Gilead PRIDE Alliance, the company’s LGBTQ employee resource group (ERG). The Gilead Pride Alliance ERG is dedicated to celebrating diverse identities and helping ensure LGBTQ+ employees and allies can be their authentic selves, so all Gilead employees feel empowered to contribute to the company’s success.
*AWEI Small employer category is for organisations with less than 500 employees.
