AbbVie embarks on Reconciliation journey with launch of Reflect RAP
Human Resources: AbbVie has made a significant commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of First Nations peoples with the launch of its Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2023-2024. This marks a major milestone in AbbVie’s long-term dedication to supporting, advocating for, and contributing to a better future for Indigenous communities.
Over the past year, AbbVie has devoted considerable effort to understanding the importance of reconciliation and preparing its organisation for this transformative journey. The Reflect RAP 2023-2024 serves as a strategic framework and actionable plan that will guide AbbVie’s path toward reconciliation.
Nathalie McNeil, Vice President and General Manager of AbbVie Australia and New Zealand, emphasised the timeliness of the plan’s launch, given the ongoing national conversation surrounding the National Indigenous Voice to Parliament and an upcoming referendum. Ms McNeil expressed AbbVie’s recognition that they are just beginning their reconciliation journey and their commitment to taking thoughtful steps to make a genuine difference.
Have high expectations and find the courage to speak up, says AbbVie’s VP and General Manager
AbbVie’s Reflect RAP 2023-2024 establishes a solid foundation for future RAPs and reconciliation initiatives, ensuring they are both meaningful and sustainable. The plan focuses on four key pillars: relationships, respect, opportunities, and governance. It outlines practical actions that will enable AbbVie to make a significant impact on reconciliation within the organisation and the communities where its employees live and work.
This landmark RAP also provides AbbVie employees with opportunities to deepen their understanding of and respect for First Nations peoples and their histories. It aims to build trust and strengthen relationships with Indigenous stakeholders while exploring the possibilities for positive change within AbbVie’s sphere of influence.
The Reflect RAP 2023-2024 now becomes an integral part of AbbVie’s Equity, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion strategy, forming the bedrock of the company’s Environment, Social, and Governance framework. By embarking on this reconciliation journey, AbbVie seeks to gain a deeper understanding of the barriers that impact the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Through its commitment to making a remarkable impact on people’s lives, AbbVie aims to challenge itself and find ways to improve health outcomes for First Nations peoples.
Phil McNamara, Business Unit Director of Eye Care, Therapeutic Neurotoxin & Migraine, and Executive Sponsor of AbbVie’s First Nations Workstream, expressed pride and excitement in launching AbbVie’s first-ever RAP. This plan not only sets the company on a collective and personal path toward greater awareness and understanding of reconciliation but also guides them in work that will have a meaningful impact on reducing health inequities and effecting real change.
AbbVie’s Reflect RAP 2023-2024 signifies a bold step toward fostering a more inclusive and equitable future, as the company works alongside First Nations communities to address health disparities and create lasting social change.
