Medtronic VP & MD emphasises ‘strong leadership, bold commitment, clear roadmap’ on World Environment Day

ESG: Coinciding with World Environment Day on 5 June, Liz Carnabuci, Vice President & Managing Director of Medtronic ANZ, joined Health Industry Hub to discuss this year’s theme through a healthcare lens.

Emphasising the crucial intersection between environmental sustainability and healthcare, she highlighted Medtronic’s commitment to both.

“It’s a collective responsibility. Health is directly tied to the environment and we have to be part of the sustainable operations,” Carnabuci highlighted.

She addressed concerns over the lack of funding in the recent Federal Budget for the National Health and Climate Strategy, stressing the importance of prioritising climate action in the healthcare sector.

“As a medtech industry we are focussing on lobbying for standardised reporting frameworks, and driving consistency in the sustainability requirements,” Carnabuci stated.

She also shared insights on the challenges of integrating environmental considerations into health systems and processes. She underscored Medtronic’s global sustainability strategy and its local implications, emphasising the medtech sector’s opportunity to align with international best practices.

Finally, she offered advice to medtech organisations embarking on or expanding their sustainability journey.

“Environment and sustainability stewardship needs to be front and centre because there is still work to be done. We need to collaborate and foster the shared responsibility across all levels of the healthcare industry,” she emphasised.
