“Nothing beats the feeling of shared purpose, values and commitment”, Boehringer Ingelheim GM on top employer award

Health Industry Hub | January 18, 2023 |

Pharma News: Boehringer Ingelheim has again been named an employer of choice, with the Top Employers Institute awarding the company Global Top Employer status for the third successive year.

Locally, Boehringer Ingelheim has been recognised as a Top Employer in both Australia and New Zealand for its standout practices in people strategy, leadership, organisational change and its work environment. The certification also highlights the company’s commitment to purpose-led leadership and the mental health of employees.

Dirk Otto, General Manager, Boehringer Ingelheim Australia and New Zealand said it was an honour for the business to receive this recognition by the Top Employers Institute.

“In a world where the only constant is change, it is more important than ever to get the fundamentals right in business strategy and people management. What this means for us is two-fold: first, having a long-term purpose and strategy for the business; and second, ensuring each and every member of our team understands and is engaged in that purpose and strategy. To combine these two elements is the critical success factor of our times,” Mr Otto said.

He added “What these results reflect is Boehringer Ingelheim’s approach to holistic employee wellbeing. It’s part of our DNA to take a long term view to strategic planning, prioritisation and role clarity. We also have dedicated programmes focused on mental health and wellness that make us an employer of choice.”

Boehringer Ingelheim employees receive support through programmes that are relevant for them and their families. This includes a work environment of physical and emotional security, an inclusive way of working together that creates a sense of belonging, mental health awareness initiatives and manager trainings, a focus on work-life-balance, opportunities for volunteering, and competitive pay and benefits.

“People are at the core of everything that our company does. The strong human dimension of our corporate culture demonstrates a commitment to our people as individuals, not just as professionals. The Top Employers award acknowledges that,” said Lisa Price, Head of Human Resources, Boehringer Ingelheim Australia and New Zealand.

“Our people value our investment in humanistic skill development, such as influencing, stakeholder management and collaboration. Coaching and feedback are part of our daily work, and we believe everyone can lead, wherever they are in the business,” Ms Price said.

Nurturing talent and instilling a growth mindset is driven throughout the organisation’s key employee programmes to support broader skill sets development and create a fulfilling work environment. One example is the Regional Talent Move programme which aims to build agility and resilience by allowing employees to take on a stretch assignment in a different country for up to six months to work on a project or business problem.

Mr Otto noted “While awards and external recognition are always welcome, nothing beats the feeling of knowing that the people you lead and work with have a shared purpose, values and commitment. Therein lies the meaning of family for Boehringer Ingelheim in Australia and New Zealand.”
