Medicines Australia CEO voices policy and advocacy focus for 2024

Pharma News: In this Health Industry Hub interview, Liz de Somer, CEO of Medicines Australia, acknowledged the top highlights that led to meaningful change in 2023, and voiced the key policy agenda for the new year.
The delayed government response to The New Frontier report was addressed, with a focus on organisations expressing disappointment due to the response mainly supporting recommendations already in progress.
The Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Review took centre stage, with concerns raised about transparency and progress against deadlines. The delayed consultation 2 opens for submissions in the week of 22 January with online and in-person workshops planned to take place throughout February 2024.
Looking ahead, the interview touched upon the potential impact of an early federal election on the HTA Review’s success. Ms de Somer shared insights into Medicines Australia’s strategic objectives and policy focus areas for 2024, emphasising the goals aimed at delivering significant impacts for both patients and the pharmaceutical industry.
