If action isn’t needed now, then when?

Health Industry Hub | December 17, 2024 |

Tossing a pebble into a pond creates ripples that reach far beyond the initial splash. Every choice we make, every action we take, triggers a ripple effect – building momentum, shaping futures and inspiring change.

As the year winds down, I find myself reflecting on a deeply personal journey: supporting my father as he courageously navigates life with metastatic prostate cancer. His experience is a profound reminder that every patient’s journey is interconnected with the breadth of the healthcare sector including pharma, medtech, diagnostics, and biotech.

Reimagining a more equitable, innovative, and sustainable healthcare system isn’t just about improving one life – it’s about creating ripples that reshape families, communities, and future generations.

Yet, we cannot ignore the challenges our healthcare sector faces.

We hear heartbreaking stories: lives lost waiting for novel treatments to be PBS-listed, people in relentless pain due to delayed surgery, and families sacrificing necessities to afford essential care. Even those with private health insurance feel its diminishing value amidst the pressures engulfing private hospitals and health insurers.

The lack of imagination and vision in health policy on both sides of politics is of great concern. Coupled with the erosion of public trust in governments, mainstream media, and even medical science – a legacy of the COVID-19 pandemic – the complexity of our healthcare landscape becomes clear.

If action isn’t needed now, then when?

It would be easy to feel disheartened by the challenges facing our health system and to be left frustrated with governments and decision makers. However, with a collective willingness and an inspiring vision for health, meaningful ripples of change can happen and it can happen quickly.

I’d like to personally thank you for your daily contribution and commitment to drive progress for many patients like my father.

Thank you for being a valuable member of our community and for your ongoing support of Health Industry Hub as we unite the diversity of the healthcare sector to inspire meaningful change.

From all of us at Health Industry Hub, wishing you a joyful and restful Christmas and holiday season. Looking forward to working together in the year ahead to create more ripples of meaningful change.

Kind regards,
