Driving policy changes in heart disease: Uniting clinician and patient advocacy

Pharma News: Advocacy is the bridge that links patient care with efforts to address social determinants of health, institutionalised prejudices, and structural dislocations faced by patients and communities.
Tanya Hall, CEO of hearts4heart and Dr Warrick Bishop, Cardiologist, Author and Keynote Speaker joined Health Industry Hub to discuss the essential and combined role of clinicians and patients as advocates in cardiovascular health.
They shared the launch of a new resource for heart failure patients at Parliament House. The guide was motivated by identifying unmet clinical needs and aims to provide vital support to those affected by heart failure and their carers.
Dr Bishop delved into the cutting-edge medicines and medical technologies revolutionising heart failure diagnosis and treatment. Moreover, Ms Hall addressed the issue of equity of access to heart failure care in Australia, emphasising the challenges for people living in remote/rural areas, First Nations people, and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations.
The interview also focused on the collaboration between industry, clinicians, and academia to integrate the patient voice effectively in research and health technology assessment (HTA) activities. hearts4heart’s advocacy efforts and collaboration with the government to drive essential policy changes and secure necessary funding was a key highlight of the conversation.
In reimagining healthcare across the entire patient journey, Health Industry HubTM is the only one-stop-hub uniting the diversity of the Pharma, MedTech, Diagnostics & Biotech sectors to inspire meaningful change.
