Call for a horizon scanning framework that is future proof, agile and moves with the age of precision medicine

Pharma News: In OECD countries, over 60% of medicines become available to patients within 6 months, compared to Australia’s 22%. Bristol Myers Squibb Australia (BMSA), launched the Strengthening Horizon Scanning in Australia report recently with recommendations for an efficient, effective and inclusive horizon scanning process for the Australian healthcare system.
Hayley Anderson, Head of Patient Advocacy & Policy at BMS & Mark Brooke, CEO at Lung Foundation Australia joined Health Industry Hub to discuss the key considerations for developing a fit-for-purpose horizon scanning framework for Australia.
Hayley and Mark reflected on the role of horizon scanning in drug-device convergence and non-traditional health technology entrants, such as Apple and Microsoft.
As per Medicines Australia Strategic Agreement with the government, the first-ever horizon scanning forum is set to take place this year. Hayley and Mark considered the key priorities of this forum and the potential roadblocks that need to be addressed.
