Arrotex partners with Korea-based pharma in fifth deal of the year

Korea-based Dong-A ST has entered into a licensing agreement with Arrotex Pharmaceuticals for its epilepsy treatment. The agreement represents the fifth partnership secured by Arrotex under CEO Matt Zeller, following collaborations with Besins, Pfizer, George Medicines and Formosa earlier this year.

Under the terms of the agreement, Dong-A ST will transfer commercialisation rights for Xcopri (cenobamate) in Australia and New Zealand to Arrotex Pharmaceuticals. Arrotex will be responsible for obtaining local regulatory approval and leading launch activities, while Dong-A ST will manufacture and supply the finished product.

Xcopri is a treatment for which Dong-A ST obtained rights from SK Biopharmaceuticals in January last year, with coverage spanning 30 countries including Korea, Southeast Asia and Oceania. This agreement with Arrotex marks Dong-A ST’s first overseas licensing transaction involving an in-licensed pharmaceutical product.

Early clinical development of Xcopri identified a serious adverse event associated with drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome. As a result, a lower starting dose and slower titration approach has become the standard dosing practice in countries where Xcopri has received regulatory approval.
