Arrotex partners with Besins in fourth deal of the year under new CEO

Besins Healthcare and Arrotex Pharmaceuticals have announced a new strategic partnership that will see Arrotex represent Prometrium (micronised progesterone) to pharmacies across Australia starting April 2026. This marks Arrotex’s fourth partnership under new CEO Matt Zeller, following alliances with Pfizer, George Medicines and Formosa earlier this year.
Expanding access to menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) has been a central focus of the government’s $573.3 million women’s health package, with an estimated 150,000 women expected to benefit from lower out-of-pocket costs. As part of this pre-election commitment, Besins Healthcare’s Estrogel Pro (estradiol/micronised progesterone), Estrogel (estradiol), and Prometrium were listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
Besins will leverage Arrotex’s extensive pharmacy network, established relationships, and distribution capabilities to ensure continued access to Prometrium for Australian women. The partnership combines Besins’ global expertise in hormone therapies with Arrotex’s local strength in pharmacy engagement and supply reliability.
Geoff Blundell, Managing Director of Besins Healthcare Australia, said “This partnership enables patient access to a body-identical micronised progesterone, via the originator brand or authorised generic, reflecting Besins Healthcare’s long‑standing commitment to women’s health and patient choice. Through Arrotex’s extensive reach across community pharmacy, we believe it will also help deliver greater value and supply confidence for our healthcare system.”
Under the agreement, Arrotex has also been granted a license to an exclusive authorised generic, which is anticipated to be available in Australia by the second quarter of 2026, with listing on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) expected shortly thereafter.
The addition of the authorised generic alongside the established Prometrium brand is intended to support long-term market sustainability while expanding treatment access for Australian women. For community pharmacies, the partnership ensures access to both the originator brand and a future Arrotex-branded generic product through the company’s distribution platform.
Hayley Tamborini, Chief Commercial Officer of Arrotex, said, “Arrotex is proud to welcome Besins Healthcare as the latest global organisation to partner with us in Australia. This is an important established therapy for Australian women, and this collaboration reflects a shared commitment to ensuring continued access through community pharmacy.”
