Medical Affairs association welcomes AbbVie leader as interim President, charting the path ahead
Medical: In a significant development for the Medical Affairs Professionals of Australasia (MAPA), the current MAPA President, Matt Britland, has announced a pivotal career move as the Managing Director of a Medical Affairs consultancy. In light of this strategic shift, he has taken the step to relinquish his position as MAPA President, effective immediately.
Coinciding with this transition, the MAPA Executive Committee has conducted a special vote to appoint AbbVie’s Lauren Pasfield as the interim MAPA President, and Sanofi’s Bevan Sweerts as the interim MAPA Vice President. These interim roles will be upheld until formal elections are conducted at the much-anticipated Annual General Meeting scheduled for the fourth quarter of the year.
On behalf of the MAPA Executive Committee, Ms Pasfield expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Mr Britland’s contributions to both MAPA and the broader medical affairs community.
“Matt’s innovative approach has supported the evolution, and grown the profile, of medical affairs in Australia. In his capacity as non-member participant in MAPA working groups, MAPA will benefit from Matt’s continued support on key ongoing projects in 2023, including the highly anticipated MAPA / MAPS Summit,” she said.
Reflecting on his tenure as outgoing President, Mr Britland stated “As I embark on this new chapter of my professional journey in Medical Affairs, I will carry with me the valuable experiences and lessons I have learned during my time as President. I wish the Medical Affairs Professionals of Australasia continued success in their mission to advance healthcare and bring about positive change in our industry – what you do is important.”
Assuming the mantle of interim President with a sense of honour and purpose, Ms Pasfield said “I’m honored to be involved in steering the course of MAPA as the interim President. With the support of our exceptional executive committee, I am confident that together we will continue to drive the transformative journey for Medical Affairs in Australia, supporting the advancement of healthcare innovation and medical excellence.”
This transition marks a pivotal juncture in the journey of MAPA, one that promises to shape the landscape of medical affairs in Australia and further propel the organisation’s commitment to the betterment of healthcare practices and advancements.
