BeiGene medical leader reveals R&D vision and strategy for quicker access to novel therapies

Health Industry Hub | January 16, 2023 |

Troels Wolthers, Senior Medical Director at BeiGene joined Health Industry Hub to reveal the company’s R&D vision in bringing faster access to innovative therapies in oncology and expanding areas of development.

Troels discussed the intriguing history of the company with John Oyler, a US entrepreneur, who founded BeiGene with its roots in China. In fact, the company’s BTK inhibitor, Brukinsa, made history as the first cancer drug discovered in China to secure a US FDA approval in 2019.

In Australia, BeiGene’s strategy to maximise the opportunities for innovation began with its first clinical trial in Melbourne in 2014, with the company expanding its R&D footprint locally since that time.

Addressing issues of ‘value’ to society to provide context for the use and reimbursement of novel medicines and therapies is becoming increasingly more important. Troels explored how BeiGene is addressing the clinical, humanistic and economic factors relating to ‘value’ to accelerate access to novel therapies locally and globally.

In reimagining healthcare across the entire patient journey, Health Industry HubTM is the only one-stop-hub bringing the diversity of Pharma, MedTech, Diagnostics & Biotech sectors together to inspire meaningful change.
