Sydney cancer centre welcomes new medical technology ahead of grand opening

MedTech & Diagnostics News: A $52 million integrated cancer treatment facility in Campbelltown, located in south-western Sydney, is swiftly advancing towards its grand opening. The delivery of advanced radiation therapy technology has marked a pivotal juncture in the imminent launch of GenesisCare’s state-of-the-art cancer centre.
Members of the Campbelltown Council, representatives from GenesisCare, consumer advocacy groups, and the construction team, congregated at the site to witness the arrival of the multi-million dollar medical technology equipment. This included the Elekta Versa HD linear accelerator and the Catalyst+ HD surface guidance system from C-RAD, pivotal to facilitating advanced treatments like stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS).
Michael Davis, GenesisCare’s NSW General Manager, emphasised “The arrival of this technology marks a major milestone in the delivery of our new centre. Campbelltown is one of Australia’s fastest growing cities and a key priority for the new Campbelltown centre has been future-proofing services and care to accommodate the growing population not only in Campbelltown but the wider region.”
Recognising the value of firsthand experiences in shaping optimal care, GenesisCare actively engaged with individuals diagnosed with cancer, such as members of its Consumer Representative Panel.
Lee McKerracher, a local resident of Campbelltown and a panel member, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I was delighted to hear that a new cancer treatment centre was under construction in Campbelltown to give future patients greater choice close to home. In developing this new centre, I applaud GenesisCare for inviting feedback from people who have previously experienced cancer. It shows vulnerability, but ultimately helps to discover insights that can make such a difference in how a patient interacts with a facility and its team which, in turn, elevates the level of care.”
Set to inaugurate its services in March 2024, the centre aims to provide patients with comprehensive access to advanced integrated cancer treatments, encompassing radiation oncology, medical oncology, immunotherapy, haematology, and allied health care services. Notably, a Wellness Pavilion and access to clinical trials will complement the range of offerings. Additionally, on-site providers will deliver pathology and imaging services under one roof, streamlining the patient experience.
The collaboration between Campbelltown City Council, GenesisCare, construction company Erilyan, and property owner NorthWest Healthcare Properties has yielded this pioneering healthcare precinct, signaling the inaugural phase of a transformative healthcare hub in Campbelltown.
Focusing on environmental sustainability, the precinct aspires to attain a prestigious 6-Star-Green-Star Rating upon completion and evaluation. Embraced by verdant open spaces like Koshigaya Park and strategically positioned in proximity to major transportation routes such as Narellan Road and the M5, the centre promises convenience and accessibility for patients journeying from across the region.
