ResMed dreams bigger with latest acquisition deal

Australian-founded Resmed has completed its $US360 million acquisition of Noctrix Health, a medical device company developing clinically validated wearable therapeutics for chronic neurological disorders.

The acquisition expands Resmed’s clinical sleep health portfolio into an adjacent area of significant unmet need, including the treatment of Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) which is the third most prevalent sleep disorder. It adds to Resmed’s wide-ranging offerings, which include its respiratory therapies for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and digital platforms.

Noctrix’s Nidra Tonic Motor Activation (TOMAC) Therapy is an FDA De Novo classified, non-invasive, non-pharmacologic treatment designed to reduce symptoms of moderate-to-severe RLS and improve sleep quality in adults who have not found sufficient relief with drug therapy. For many patients, this therapy can deliver meaningful improvement in daily life and overall sleep health.

Their legs will pivot and kick, and it’s very bad for the bed partner, obviously,” Farrell said. “It can be treated by drugs, but they have awful side effects, so many people don’t; they just go without treatment, and have this awful thing all their lives.”

Noctrix has rapidly built a strong foundation of clinical validation for its breakthrough therapy, including 10 peer-reviewed publications and inclusion in the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of RLS, notable achievements that reflect both scientific validation and growing clinical adoption.

Resmed plans to integrate Noctrix’s technology into its portfolio of connected devices and digital health solutions to help expand access, improve care pathways and enhance patient outcomes over time.
