New state-of-the-art renal centre opens in Sydney
MedTech & Diagnostics News: A state-of-the-art renal care centre has opened its doors in Nepean Private Hospital. This marks the eighth such facility for B. Braun in Australia, the fourth in New South Wales, and a second collaboration with Healthscope, the operator of Nepean Private Hospital.
Russ Hoskins, Director of Ambulatory Sales Channel – Provider Business at B. Braun, expressed his enthusiasm about the fruition of this long-anticipated collaboration with Healthscope.
“In its simplest form, this is a place for healing, where we come to share our expertise, and to create an environment which promotes health and wellbeing,” said Mr Hoskins.
Highlighting the vital role of such centres, especially in Western Sydney, Mr Hoskins noted the surge in demand for dialysis services across Australia, growing at an annual compound rate of 8%. Dialysis services now account for 17% of all hospital admissions, surpassing other causes. The B. Braun Renal Care Centre aims to address this pressing demand.
Jay Jiang, General Manager of Nepean Private Hospital, highlighted the collaborative effort between public and private healthcare facilities, describing it as a perfect example of working together to create a world-class facility.
“I think this is a perfect example of us working together to create a facility that is going to be world class, and is going to be off the back of the private hospital, but also the public hospital,” said Mr Jiang.
“I’ve come from the public sector for about 15 years, and I know the public sector can’t deal with the volume that’s required from our community, especially in the dialysis space. I think these are the centres that we need to continue to push, because without this, patients won’t have care close to where they live, and I think that is the most important part of this partnership,” he added.
The official opening of the centre took place last week with Melissa McIntosh, Federal Member for Lindsay, who wears multiple hats in her roles, including Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Health and Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of MedTech.
Reflecting on her personal connection to healthcare challenges, being a mother of a son with Type 1 diabetes, Ms McIntosh said, “Every night, I think, I really hope that in the future, he doesn’t have chronic disease because of his Type 1.
“I wish we didn’t need this centre, I wish we were tackling the cause of major health conditions in this country, but we are so blessed that we do have this here because it is greatly needed.”
The centre boasts 16 advanced dialysis chairs, making it one of the largest and most cutting-edge private dialysis facilities in Sydney.
