Hospital group expands with new acquisitions in VIC and SA

Health Industry Hub | July 15, 2022 |

MedTech News: In a deal worth $7.2 million, a hospital group has expanded its footprint with new acquisitions in Victoria and South Australia.

Cura Day Hospitals Group has added to its growing portfolio of short-stay facilities with this latest acquisition of hospitals. It now has 28 facilities across the country after sealing deals for Melbourne’s Sir John Monash Private Hospital and Adelaide’s Glenelg Day Surgery.

“We are growing rapidly and working hard every week to grow our facilities and services on offer to better serve each community our hospitals are located in,” Cura Group CEO Andrew Currie said.

Opened in the suburb of Clayton in 1992, Sir John Monash Private Hospital was one of the Victorian capital’s first standalone day hospitals.

It provides a range of services including ophthalmology and paediatric dentistry, plus general surgery along with plastic and reconstructive, ear, nose and throat, oral maxillofacial, cosmetic, and podiatric procedures.

It is Cura’s fifth hospital in Victoria, after three others in Melbourne and one in Ballarat.

“Backed by an efficient management team, it is well-regarded in the local community and has a reputation of clinical and operational excellence thanks to its high level of patient service,” Mr Currie said.

Mr Currie said the hospital – named after the celebrated Australian military commander and engineer, who died in 1931 – aligned with Cura’s aim to provide quality, safe and well-equipped facilities focused on both patient and staff well-being.

“We look forward to working with the whole team at Sir John Monash Private Hospital moving forward as they continue to provide quality care for Melbourne residents,” Mr Currie said.

Glenelg Day Surgery, based in one of Adelaide’s coastal suburbs, specialises in plastic and reconstructive surgery, endovascular procedures, skin cancer surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, urological procedures, cosmetic surgery, and assisted reproductive procedures.

“It has been providing top-quality services for more than 25 years, and in 2019 it relocated to a new purpose-built hospital to make even greater improvements to patient care,” Mr Currie said.

A stand-alone hospital with four operating rooms, Glenelg Day Surgery is Cura’s second facility in the state.

“Cura is passionate about acquiring complementary facilities that hold the same values as us and prioritise maintaining modern and well-equipped facilities to the highest safety standards,” Mr Currie added.
