Championing a global ‘spirit’ in tackling healthcare challenges: Insights from international leaders
MedTech & Diagnostics News: In a bid to foster international ties and explore healthcare synergies, a delegation led by Governor Tim Walz from Minnesota, United States, has embarked on a significant trade mission to Australia. The delegation comprises leaders from various sectors, including medical technology, aiming to strengthen relationships and forge new collaborations.
Patrick Seeb, Executive Director of Destination Medical Centre (DMC), and Peter Frosch, President and CEO of Greater MSP (Minneapolis-St. Paul region in Minnesota), joined Health Industry Hub in an interview that highlighted a convergence of strategic visions and innovative aspirations.
Minnesota has been a centre of health innovation for decades. The state houses the #1 hospital in the US, the Mayo Clinic, and #1 health technology cluster in the world, including Medtronic.
Destination Medical Centre, a transformative 20-year initiative, aims to elevate Minnesota into a global hub for health innovation and research. Mr Seeb shed light on “leveraging Mayo Clinic’s success and investing in it. Our idea is to work with the private sector who want to turn the disclosures of intellectual property into commercial products in healthcare.”
Minnesota is among 31 tech hubs designated by the Biden administration. Mr Frosch credited this recent achievement to a collaborative initiative Minnesota MedTech Hub 3.0 propelled by Geoff Martha, Medtronic’s global Chairman and CEO, and a coalition of major players in the medical technology landscape.
“We have the backing of the US government as one of the the official tech hubs for the United States. This is a global team sport and we’re looking for teammates,” he explained.
He added “From a patient standpoint, the pandemic reminds us that health is a global experience. We could do more to meet these global challenges as a global team. It’s a new spirit of global problem solving that needs to be in the design of how we approach these healthcare challenges.”
For both large medtechs and small startups in Australia, the duo also shared their advice in navigating the evolving and complex healthcare ecosystem.
In reimagining healthcare across the entire patient journey, Health Industry HubTM is the only one-stop-hub bringing the diversity of Pharma, MedTech, Diagnostics & Biotech sectors together to inspire meaningful change.
