Aussie medtech signs new agreement with global orthopaedic company

MedTech & Diagnostics News: Australia saw nearly two million joint replacement surgeries logged by the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJRR), with a procedure date up to and including 31 December 2022, with over a million involving knees alone.
Privately held, California–based Think Surgical has forged a new partnerships with Australia’s Signature Orthopaedics involving its handheld surgical robotics and implants for total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
The collaboration has a SignatureOrtho knee design joining the Think Surgical ID-HUB, a proprietary data bank of implant modules for use with its FDA-cleared TMINI miniature robotic system.
Think Surgical seeks to provide open-platform orthopaedic surgical robots that support implants from multiple manufacturers. Earlier this year, it added implants from Maxx Orthopaedics and b-ONE Ortho Corp.
Last month, orthopaedics device giant Zimmer Biomet entered into a limited distribution agreement to integrate ZB technology into a customised TMINI solution. ZB plans to introduce the customised TMINI system in select U.S. markets in the second half of 2024.
Think Surgical CEO Stuart Simpson said that the company is excited about the new collaboration with SignatureOrtho, which boosts choice for TMINI customers and maximises the company’s commitment to an implant agnostic platform.
Adding the SignatureOrtho knee system to the ID-HUB database will enable SignatureOrtho customers to have access to robotic-assisted technology for total knee replacement
“We are thrilled to collaborate with THINK Surgical to offer a robotic solution to our customers,” said Declan Brazil, chief executive officer of Signature Orthopaedics. “This partnership highlights our dedication to innovation and our responsiveness to customer feedback. Together, we aim to enhance surgical precision and improve patient outcomes through this innovative effort.”
