‘Three C’s of equality barriers’: J&J MedTech leader voices his journey as a gender equity advocate

Kaz Yasamura, Supply Chain Lead, J&J MedTech joined Health Industry Hub‘s IWD interview series to share his experience across US, Japan and locally on the most effective ways to engage men on gender equity in the workplace.
Leadership commitment is the most significant driver of gender equity advancement in the workplace, according to the Champions of Change Coalition.
Kaz witnessed how J&J MedTech’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives evolved over time and expanded his own contribution to the work on gender equity.
“The more important question is what’s the cost of not offering these extended benefits?” he asked.
“I acknowledge that there are broader system issues but my experience also tells me that a certain level of accountability lies with the individual, especially in addressing the three C’s of equality barriers.”
Based on his own journey of moving from an “obedient” bystander to an active contributor, Kaz shared his advice to all employees in challenging gender-biased organisational policies and practices to drive meaningful change.
