‘If nothing changes, nothing changes’, says Stryker’s senior leader on IWD 2024

Health Industry Hub | March 7, 2024 |

Leadership & Management: Ahead of International Women’s Day 2024, Emmy Holt, Senior Director of Joint Replacement at Stryker South Pacific, joined Health Industry Hub in sharing insights on her personal commitment to gender equity and Stryker’s initiatives in fostering diversity and inclusion.

“As a female leader in orthopaedics and as a member of the leadership team, I have a privilege and a responsibility as a role model. To bring energy and inspiration I need to prioritise my well-being and talk very openly to my team about how I do that, knowing that it gives them the permission to do the same, which enables all of us to bring the best version of ourselves to work every day,” Ms Holt explained.

Recently, MTAA partnered with the University of Newcastle and Macquarie University to undertake a gender equity study. Barriers included a limited talent pipeline, the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles, and male dominance in certain customer segments. Ms Holt provided insights into how the medtech industry is working to overcome these challenges.

“If nothing changes nothing changes. It’s about intentionality of my mindset and celebrating what we do well when it comes to diversity and inclusion, but also consistently looking for ways that we can drive progress,” she commented.

Stryker’s recognition as the winner of the Women in MedTech Champion award at the MTAA industry awards was also discussed, with Ms Holt elaborating on how the organisation implements unique strategies to drive meaningful change in gender equity. The interview also delved into her personal contributions to fostering positive change within her team.

Addressing the evolving nature of workplace inclusion, Ms Holt offered advice to employees on taking everyday actions to create a diverse and inclusive workplace, highlighting the collective responsibility of fostering a positive and inclusive environment for themselves and their colleagues.
