Fulfilling the promise of advancing gender equity through digital health: Telstra Health MD on IWD 2024

Health Industry Hub | March 7, 2024 |

Leadership & Management: In celebration of International Women’s Day 2024, Elizabeth Koff AM, Managing Director of Telstra Health, Australia’s largest digital health company, reflected on how DE&I has evolved during her career and leadership journey.

Regarding this year’s IWD theme Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress, Ms Koff expressed her resonance with the theme, shedding light on her personal connection to the importance of investing in women to drive progress.

In this Health Industry Hub podcast, Ms Koff shared her perspective on becoming an influential female leader while staying authentic and true to one’s values.

“There’s no right way to do the wrong thing, though some people tend to always justify and rationalise why they’ve done something. Your words and decisions are critiqued by many, and if it’s not genuine and authentic, you’ll lose credibility as a leader. So, leading your value set through decision making is absolutely critical,” she emphasised.

The role of digital health in advancing gender equity was explored, with Ms Koff providing insights into the transformative potential of digital health in addressing gender-related disparities in healthcare. The discussion delved into the recently launched National Digital Health Strategy 2023-2028 and the key trends shaping the future of service delivery in the private and public health systems.

“It’s critically important for us to keep emphasising that the transformation of analog to digital isn’t going to deliver health system transformation. It’s the quantum leap that will demonstrate the tremendous opportunities of data and connectivity that will really start making the difference. But, the cost of implementation is always going to be at the heart of many decisions,” she noted.
