BioNSW launch to bridge industry gap unaddressed by AusBiotech

Health Industry Hub | August 28, 2023 |

Biotech News: In a move aimed at invigorating the biotech sector in New South Wales, BioNSW, marked a pivotal moment with its official launch on August 24th. With its sights set on bridging a notable gap that AusBiotech was unable to address, BioNSW aims to usher in collaboration and growth, drawing inspiration from BioMelbourne Network and Life Sciences Queensland.

“New South Wales is home to a thriving life sciences industry, with world-leading research institutions, innovative businesses and a supportive ecosystem,” said Anthony Murray, Co-Founder of BioNSW and Head of Growth at Opyl. “We believe that BioNSW can play a vital role in helping this industry grow and thrive.”

Foreseeing a transformative trajectory, the non-profit organisation is set to curate networking events that lay the foundation for partnerships, host educational gatherings, and pave the way for crucial funding prospects. Moreover, BioNSW vows to amplify the voice of NSW life sciences industry in policy and advocacy.

“We believe that this industry has the potential to fill skills gaps, drive local growth and ultimately improve health outcomes for all,” added Mr Murray.

Building on this enthusiasm, Brad Walsh, Co-Founder of BioNSW and CEO of local biotechs GlyTherix and Minomic International, emphasised, “NSW is home to a vibrant group of businesses across the life science spectrum, but there is no single organization that brings them together. BioNSW will fill this gap and help to connect and celebrate the life sciences industry across the state.”

While the organisation is headquartered in Sydney, it will add focus on innovation and commercialisation in Newcastle and Wollongong.
