New Code of Conduct to take effect on 30 March
Medicines Australia’s new Code of Conduct is now available online ahead of its implementation on 30 March 2020.
Edition 19 of the Code of Conduct has adopted a principles-based approach, streamlining information into clear sections and removing outdated provisions from previous editions, while maintaining the same ethical standards and transparency of reporting.
In the past, Medicines Australia has produced a document which outlines the changes made when releasing a new edition of the Code. Edition 19 of the Code underwent a complete re-write, which makes the production of such a document impossible.
To enhance understanding and application of this Code, Medicines Australia has created the Code of Conduct Resource Tool Kit. This manual is produced as a separate publication. The Toolkit provides insight both into the experiences of the Code of Conduct, Appeals and Monitoring Committees and the deliberations of Medicines Australia and its members when developing amendments to the Code of Conduct.
During her last interview with Health Industry Hub, Ms Deborah Monk, former Director of Ethics and Compliance, Medicines Australia stated “Over the next three to five years, we would like to see the principles-based Code of Conduct securely embedded in our member companies. Additionally, we endeavour to have the number of complaints being raised under the Code remain at a relatively low level demonstrating a good level of compliance amongst companies.”
Medicines Australia recommends the Code of Conduct Bridging Program conducted by the University of Tasmania, to provide detailed information on the application of the Code of Conduct.
