Health Industry Hub | May 9, 2022 |

Human Resources: The sixth edition of the annual Lawyers Weekly awards has concluded, bringing another round of recognitions for the top-performing in-house legal professionals throughout the past 12 months.

Penne Carter, Head of Commercial Legal and Compliance at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) Australia has been named the Healthcare Lawyer of the Year at this year’s Corporate Counsel Awards. In addition, the BMS Commercial Legal & Compliance Team was acknowledged as a finalist in the Healthcare Team of the Year category.

Neil MacGregor, Managing Director at Bristol Myers Squibb Australia praised Ms Carter and the Commercial Legal and Compliance team’s extraordinary contribution to the business and the wider healthcare industry that has warranted this recognition.

“Amid the challenges the last few years have presented, our legal and compliance team has navigated complexities with a continuing focus on integrity. I am proud of their commitment and expertise in shaping, reviewing and monitoring our legal and compliance framework for a
variety of our initiatives and programs to ensure positive outcomes for patients,” said Mr MacGregor.

“Penne has been leading the Commercial Legal and Compliance team for over the past five years, bringing together the team with her excellent communication skills, empowering leadership style and unique ability to identify key issues. This recognition comes after being named a finalist for General Counsel of the Year in the Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards 2021. BMS Australia could not have asked for a better person to lead our legal and compliance team,” he added.

Humbled and proud to be recognised, Ms Carter said “It is an honour to be recognised for our collective effort. In a period of ongoing uncertainty and market turbulence, it is especially pertinent to acknowledge the excellent work being done by in-house legal professionals.”

Lawyers Weekly editor, Jerome Doraisamy, said “On behalf of Lawyers Weekly and all of our amazing partners, I want to congratulate every winner on their extraordinary achievement.
