Human Resources: UNICEF Australia and Parents At Work, alongside 23 founding and supporting partner organisations, have come together to develop a set of National Work + Family Standards, and create the Family Friendly Workplaces certification.

According to research commissioned by Parents At Work where 1,000 employees from across Australia were surveyed about combining work and family (May 2021), 35% of employees were actively looking or considering leaving their employer due to difficulties combining their job with family life.

Organon’s commitment to a ‘people first’ culture as the foundation for its business has been recognised by Family Friendly Workplaces, with its recent certification as a Family Inclusive Workplace.

Tim Cogin, Director Fertility, Organon ANZ, is the sponsor for the Families@Work employee resource groups (ERGs), commented “We are incredibly proud that we have been able to achieve certification as a Family Friendly Workplace in our first four months since establishing as a company.  We are in unique times of high stress, and never before has work and family life been so closely integrated. We always want our people to feel good about balancing their work priorities with their family priorities. We know that family comes first, and it is important that workplaces reflect this and adapt accordingly.”

Sophie Althans, Director HR with Organon ANZ shares her perspective on the impact of supporting Founders in all their unique requirements.  “I’m proud of the unique people first culture that we actively foster in every decision we make. Embracing flexibility and being open with how our teams work and evolve has a significant correlation with our strong employee engagement across a range of measures. We continue to foster an agile environment in which all Founders have a sense of belonging and bring their valuable diverse perspectives in wholeheartedly embracing Organon’s values.”

Organon sees the benefits of being family inclusive aligned with the benefits of being generally inclusive. It is not just about those with family responsibilities, however if people experience a culture and work environment which places equal importance on them balancing their non work priorities with equal focus as their work priorities the organisation will have an engaged and energised workforce who go the extra mile for the customers and patients.

Organon places family inclusion as a key part of our approach to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. It is well researched that organisations with inclusive cultures achieve better business outcomes and productivity, better retention and engagement of their employees and have a solid track record when it comes to attracting new talent.

Earlier this year Novartis also became certified as a Family Inclusive Workplace highlighting the importance of employment policies that can vastly impact the wellbeing of both workers and their families.
