BMS leading an age-inclusive workplace with CLIMB
Human Resources: For many years, companies, managers and HR functions have been using generational or age labels to guide work practices and policies.
There is compelling evidence that employers who respond positively to the changing individual needs of employees during their lifecycle and career stages improve their success in attracting, motivating and retaining workers.
In the second interview in this series, Jacinta Lawson Business Unit Director, Haematology at BMS and Patrick Smith Marketing Lead, Haematology at BMS reflected on how population ageing is changing the workplace in Australia, bringing leaders on the journey of mobilising and managing a multigenerational workforce, and how CLIMB encourages intergenerational learning and an age-inclusive culture at BMS.
Jacinta Lawson commented “One of the great things the CLIMB group did recently was to create awareness around our attitudes and beliefs once the ageism report was released from the Australian Human Rights Commission. The group started spreading the word and asking some of those questions of our colleagues and other employees to really challenge our own biases around age. I’ll put my hand up – guilty. There are things that we constantly look at through our own personal lens. And I think just having the conversation is really valuable.”
