Medtronic VP talks the rise of health technology and key trends driving the innovation ecosystem

Health Industry Hub | April 20, 2022 |

MedTech News: Health technology continues to push the boundaries of how healthcare is delivered and has the power to create breakthroughs.

The first study in the APAC region’s healthcare technology sector was released recently and involved inputs from 150 executives from startups and business enterprises.

The whitepaper Asia Pacific’s Healthcare Technologies Ecosystem: Enhancing Startup and SME Success, commissioned by Medtronic, aims to understand the barriers MedTech companies experience and the solutions available to enable the acceleration of technology innovation and adoption.

Liz Carnabuci, Vice President Australia and New Zealand at Medtronic, joined Health Industry Hub in sharing her perspective on the whitepaper results relevant to the Australian ecosystem.

Liz reflected on the present state of the healthcare technology sector in Australia, the unmet clinical needs and the key trends driving the innovation environment.

Interestingly, the whitepaper indicated that finding the right people with relevant skills is the biggest roadblock for early-stage healthcare technology start-ups/SMEs followed by navigating data privacy and security regulations.

Currently we have a health policy landscape of promising reform opportunities highlighted by the release of the Zimmerman report from the Inquiry into Approval Processes for New Drugs and Novel Medical Technologies, the Prostheses List reforms and the upcoming independent review of Health Technology Assessment (HTA).

Liz commented on how the reforms are pivotal in driving the uptake and integration of healthcare technology and digital health into the overall healthcare system.
