Medtronic and Baxter recognised at MTAA industry awards

Health Industry Hub | November 24, 2021 |

MedTech News: The Australian MedTech Industry Awards were set up by the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) to recognise outstanding individuals and organisations in the MedTech industry.

The winners, including Medtronic and Baxter, were announced during the MedTech21 Conference at the end of last week.

MTAA CEO, Ian Burgess told Health Industry Hub “The MTAA Women in MedTech awards really do epitomise what we strive for in MedTech and at MTAA, to build equality and diversity, to support and encourage women in leadership roles and to recognise and lead the industry in best practices in gender equality.”

Emma Press, Senior Director of Ethics & Compliance APAC & Legal & Compliance ANZ, Medtronic Australia & New Zealand, winner of the 2021 Women in MedTech Champion Award, said “I’d like to recognise my fellow nominees who have been leading so much great work in this space. Medtronic and the industry have made good progress supporting women to have meaningful careers in MedTech and I’m pleased to have played a small part in that and humbled to receive this award. I would like to thank the WIMT Committee and the MTAA and members. There is still a lot of work to do so I really encourage everyone to stay focused to ensure that our daughters and their daughters will join, thrive and reach their potential in our wonderful industry.”

Fiona Lim, Director, IT, Medtronic Australia & New Zealand, winner of the 2021 Women in MedTech Emerging Women in Leadership Award, said “It is such an honour and I am so humbled to receive this award. I would like to thank the MTAA and their organising committee for sponsoring and recognising Women in MedTech. I would also like to congratulate the rest of the nominees for their work in this area.

“I am grateful to my colleagues for their tremendous support, particularly Liz Carnabuci, our authentic leader. Winning this award motivates me in my continued efforts to drive inclusion, diversity, and equity initiatives at Medtronic and beyond. It also strengthens my resolve to be the voice for others seeking diversity. I am a firm believer in ‘you can’t be what you can’t see’. Finally, I hope this recognition inspires future female talent to join our medtech community.”

Steven Flynn, General Manager Baxter Healthcare Australia and New Zealand, said “Baxter Healthcare is proud to be named the MTAA Women in MedTech Champion for 2021. This award recognises the unwavering commitment of all our employees to inclusion and diversity in creating a workplace where women and men can be their authentic selves and grow their careers.

“Our continued focus on removing unconscious biases and systemic prejudices helps to ensure diversity in our workforce and an inclusive workplace that inspires collaboration and innovation. Congratulations to all the other nominees and to the MedTech industry for their leadership in gender equality in healthcare,” he added.
