Critical reforms for equitable and personalised healthcare: President of Stryker APAC and Chair of APACMed

In an exclusive interview, John Collings, President of Stryker APAC and Chair of APACMed, delved into the pressing issues facing the medtech sector and the transformative potential of innovation in healthcare.
Collings, who has spent over two decades in global leadership positions, described a career journey centred “around people and being part of a team”. His biggest learning as a leader may be a surprise to many.
When asked about the evolving medtech sector in the Asia-Pacific region, Collings acknowledged both the rapid progress and the growing pain points.
“There is the cost and burden of healthcare provision, no matter which market and government you speak to. We see more demand for the [medtech] industry to continue to innovate and provide solutions to their problems,” he noted.
“…we can demonstrate the clinical value and economic value of our products by making sure we have greater patient outcomes that deliver meaningful value.”
As Chair of APACMed, Collings emphasised the critical role the organisation plays in shaping policies and redefining healthcare on a larger scale by “uniting the sector with one voice to drive advocacy”.
Stryker’s role in the region, according to Collings, is deeply rooted in its commitment to R&D and innovation, including artificial intelligence (AI).
“It’s only with technology like this that healthcare systems can fully evolve,” he stated.
Looking ahead, Collings urged policymakers to adopt three bold reforms over the next five years to ensure that patients can access more equitable, affordable and personalised healthcare.
