About Lauren Barber
Lauren Barber is a Clinical Nurse Specialist with post graduate qualifications in Healthcare Leadership and Cosmetic Dermatology. Throughout her nursing career Lauren has held various leadership and management roles including clinical supervision and nurse unit manager.
As an entrepreneur, Lauren is the founder and managing director of start-up medical device company NeedleCalm Pty Ltd. She divides her time between developing and commercialising an innovative medical device with leadership roles with the Medical Technology Association of Australia as both previously a Board Member and Chair of the Women in MedTech Committee.
Earlier in her career whilst nursing in emergency departments, Lauren saw the effects that the fear and phobia of needles had on patients and staff and the consequences of healthcare avoidance. This led her to develop a technique of injection to reduce the pain and discomfort associated with needle-related procedures. Since 2016 Lauren has worked to transfer this method of injection into a product, recently launched, for use in patients around the world.
